The boys and girls are back to "do" the pressing "work" that Canadians "demand" of them! (Too bad so many people have already pre-sold the Brooklyn Bridge...)
They say laugh and the world laughs with you -- well, let the deluded continue to think that. For my part, I can't help but feel sympathy for the spineless cardboard cutouts intent on not rocking the boat on the cliffs erstwhile known as Barrick Hill.
It's a potent virus and spreading fast across all the parties with the exception of the Bloc Québécois. Talk about a reward for eventually getting over it: at minimum, one more year of Conservative government. Kind of makes me want to win the upchuck gold medal.
So stay tuned for much more of the same. Political deadlock in tandem with an equal dose of parliamentary ineptness.
Only in Canada, once again, remonstrance without result. That's half the trouble...

The budget for props and publicity stunts by the opposition looks to grow in 2010.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying the Liberals threaten to find the CPC in contempt over documents redacted by our non partisan civil servants. Parliamentary supremacy vs Constitutional monarchy. Do you think PM and Michael are going to set up a gentlemen's duel next?
Let's hope Jim gets some questions, he was very lonely in the Fall 2009 when the economy improved and could not be used for "tough" questions.
CanadianSense,
ReplyDeleteWe both know that you can threaten only so many times to blow the house down. After a while it becomes stale and the Big Bad Wolf is no longer taken seriously. Put another way, shit or get off that damned pot.
If the opposition are badly in need of a collective balls transplant so be it -- but don't be surprised when your numbers fail to firm up and move substantially past the government's numbers...inaction with or without bluster only reinforces the perception of weakness. Some people can't seem to get their heads around that. End result, more time on the clock for this government courtesy of a conflicted opposition.
By definition, an opposition has the upper hand when it has a common resolve and is intent on playing it out. Otherwise, it doesn't amount to a hill of beans. It's not amateurish political theatre that will pave the way to power, not even in your dreams.
As for Jim, I want to know where he plans to get the revenue...tinkering on the margins of government and basing your projections largely on rapid economic expansion is not my idea of a sound economic strategy. But then again, when the Prime Minister has unequivocally and categorically closed the barn door on both substantial spending reductions and/or revenue increases, what's a finance minister to do other than repeatedly mouth platitudes...
It seems this PM knows a minority government when he sees one!
Ronald, if the CPC are truly blowing smoke about extending to fix the problem in five years by holding the line to NEW spending and ending EAP in 2011 what does this say about our NEED to have a QP?
ReplyDeleteIs it me or is MI working on destroying the Liberals, is Janine Krieber the canary in the Coalmine?
OTTAWA, March 4 (Reuters) - The Liberal Party will not support the budget unveiled by Canada's Conservative government on Thursday, but it will not bring down the government, party leader Michael Ignatieff said.
"We can't support this budget so we're going to be voting against it in the House, but not in sufficient numbers to bring an election on. Canadians don't want an election," Ignatieff told reporters.
"Canadians want ... an alternative to cuts, freezes and gimmicks," he added.
What is he waiting for? How can Liberals allege the Government are war criminals, cover up, torture and than allow them to stay in power?
Did I miss something?
CanadianSense,
ReplyDeleteWould you agree with me that I've sufficently addressed this topic on Nik on the Numbers?
If so, enough said already...
I don't visit Nik's blog on a regular basis. Nik's blog suffers from a few bad apples with too aliases trying to interrupt the debate.
ReplyDeleteCanadianSense,
ReplyDeleteLike you, a lot of people have left precisely because of that reason -- and guilty parties can be found at both ends of the political spectrum.
The good news is that Nik has severely clamped down. I hope traffic returns as a result of this.
