How Many Shovels?

Call my fickle but I'm looking for a commitment from this Prime Minister beyond the twelve percenters actually in the ground! I'm still waiting for Stephen Harper to tell us precisely how much of the APPROVED stimulus package will actually make it to shovels in the ground. So far, the silence has been deafening.

Now Prime Minister, far be it from me to imply that your government is intent on turning off the spigot before the spring of 2011. I'm sure that the PM will want to go public on that score and confirm that all funds APPROVED will in fact make their way to the construction stage.

Harper has stressed time and again how important it is to do everything we can to create jobs and put people to work. I expect he intends to hold up his part of the bargain. But just in case, we'll be watching with interest.

  1. Ronald,

When did the Budget get passed? How many weeks did the Liberals stall passing the budget?

After delaying the budget in the HOC how long did the Liberals delay passing the budget in the Senate?

How long did the Liberals stall the $ 3 billion calling it a slush fund?

Ronald the Polls reflect the public anger toward the Liberal Party and not the wonderful job of the CPC.

(That is why the CPC are not interested in returning to the Polls before EAP and the recovery has had more time)

Demanding Billions, stalling it, demanding more, failing to add any substantive admendments, chasing silly issues, threatening in May, June, Sept to defeat the gov't.

Ontario 905, BC Urban, QC have turned against the Liberal Party. Those "snapshots" has taken a dramatic drop. Since Sudbury***

MI is running to a daycare talking about National Daycare? Billions

    No costing, no details.

Demanding we spend make a heavy investment on Green Energy (Wind/Solar) ignoring our leadership in hydro generation. No costing or details.

Talking down the economy, civil service in health, military, consular services ignoring every positive report to cherry pick missteps.

The Liberals have flipped position with the NDP by ramping up the hyperbole partisan smears.

Those attacks and refusal to provide ANY adult conversations, alternative legislation / policies but demanding an election is held because the election is hard to sustain.

The Pollsters repeat about arrogance, out of touch meme.

Trudeau had huge negative that worked for him and you felt his presence.

MI does not leave you inspired and reinforces those negatives by not listening to any of the meme in the Polls.

  2. CanadianSense,

I will not be a hypocrite and pretend that many of your points are not at least partially valid.

To use your word -- Michael needs a narrative: he needs a costed platform and he needs it NOW. We will both remember how I was pushing for same last summer. Can we lose? You bet we can. That's the political reality we're up against. But we have to do our damndest nonetheless. We wouldn't be worth two shits if we did not try to turn this around. I'm sure you can appreciate that.

  3. Ronald we both agree the best thing for Canada is an adult conversation with MI vs SH. Both of us have "wished" they would elevate their game and tackle the serious issues for a very long time.

I have said a very long time ago, why I want an effective opposition.

I have complained for a very long time since they have failed to challenge and introduce those ideas for debate and fight on the air, in the legion hall, in the hearts and minds for their alternative vision.

The "trust me" we will tell you meme after we are elected and review the Books (worked for Daltion). This is not repeatable Dalton was not away for 34 years and did not have the negative traits MI has been framed with successfully.

Anything is possible, but ignoring the historical lessons and reality of each leader, including the polling data and projecting qualities that does not exist is not honest.

Dalton did not beat Harris, Harper did not beat Chretien they both beat the --->replacement<---.

Again MI in person is (fill in the blank) but his public persona void has been made. SH has has benefited from "incrementalism" and power of the government.

Ontario, BC, QC has Liberals Premiers are they critical of PM Harper?

DW has even stopped denouncing the "evil neo-con" regarding the Atlantic Accord.

  4. CanadianSense,

"Dalton did not beat Harris, Harper did not beat Chretien they both beat the --->replacement<---."

On the above, we are in total agreement. It probably will never happen again.

I'll quit while I'm ahead. Being on thin ice was only a hobby of mine when I was a Conservative!
