A Spring Election?

The defining moment of this Parliament is likely to come this spring when the budget is tabled. The Athletes' and Olympics Party...oh sorry, what was I thinking -- ah, ah, I mean the Conservatives, will still be comfortably ensconced in a warm glow (serves them right for not supporting climate change legislation) rapt with overconfidence and smug satisfaction. (In other words, no different than they are now.)

Jack should be all fired up over HST and so will the Bloc, replete with its sovereignist hand out for federalist cash.

Can't you just feel those little wheels spinning in the Prime Minister's brain. Let me guess? Harper has it already figured out how the Liberals will cave into pressure and support the budget with their collective tails securely fastened to their desks.

All I can say is: think again, brother! Budget time is going to be crunch time for this government. We'll vote him up or down and may the chips fall where they may.

Call me Thatcher on this one. You can turn if you want to but the lady isn't for turning and quite frankly, neither am I. Michael has some serious thinking to do between now and then but I'm confident he won't let me down. The Harper itch has proven itself to be a lot harder to scratch than originally anticipated but sooner, or later, Michael is bound to get the hang of it.

  1. Politicians lie. When they say polls don't matter, they lying. Follow the money everytime.

Winners follow the money. Lemmings do the cliff thing.

Read the latest Angelo Perschilli article. I will not repeat why MI is done.

We disagree, in reading the body language, eyes. In my opinion ONLY ( he has been broken, Dion did not believe the numbers or they were witheld)

The party was never unified under MI, and some tolerated the shift right if MI brought money an numbers withing striking distance.

Money is fading fast(Q3) TBA. Polling numbers showed 167 seats for CPC. Those 905 MI supporters do not want to lose their jobs. His latest shuffle was designed to shore up his remaining attempt to hold onto the party.

He is being pushed out by Bob's supporters, as Dion was by MI supporters. (History is repeating itself)

Some of the less partisan Liberal MP's are tired and fed up with the internal war. This will blow up big.

I have NOT "wrong" Ronald on very much. I am first to admit my mistakes and applaud efforts by friends and foes.

MI was lied to about the timeline back to power and they have crippled him and forced him to play it safe and put NOTHING for Canadians to get behind.

We don't know him, he stands for nothing but rhetoric, arrogance, secretive, out of touch. (Polling supports those points* Angus, Ekos, Nanos)

It was a tactical mistake to have picked MI over Rae. (Retail politician)

It reminds me of Chretien vs Day. (Roadkill, deer in headlights).

I am NOT bragging but the number of mistakes and framing is done.

I may believe in HOPE and CHANGE, but in the ballot box I vote for my wallet.

Self-interest vs Harper destroys Canada meme is over.

Have a good night Ronald, I am sorry you stil belive he will be around or can recover to fight an election.

  2. CanadianSense,

All of us make our own bed. I made mine in 2005...I never thought this Prime Minister would get as far as he has. The jury is still out on him but if he does win a majority, he will be completely vindicated as to his political approach and strategic focus. Again, I may indeed turn out to be a lemming! But I don't see Harper winning the "big prize".

I like Bob Rae but in my mind, he will ALWAYS be radioactive. His "leadership" would be a sure fire method to bump up the Conservative seat total in Ontario. Ditto if Mike Harris ran for the Conservative leadership.

I prefer to stick with Michael. He too has made his bed but something tells me he will find a way to get out of it.

Your view on Michael is not a pipe dream. It's a possibility but I don't see that happening. Three leaders in two years would be political suicide.

  3. Ronald, I am talking about the coalition 2008 decision. Bob Rae would have not backed down in January. He would have NEVER let Harper off the hook. He pushed Joe Clark who believed his own hype?

Campaigns matter and the CPC needed time to rebuild and look 'centrist'. Billions EAP, I have lost faith in any adult conversation from the Liberals.

I am sorry you think MI can recover, it was not his fault his TEAM reduced him and destroyed his 'gifts' by molding him into a twitter, sound bite retail politician. (His acting, fake outrage is unbelievable!)

Rae probably would have gone coast to coast with the CBC, Toronto Star roadshow and sold left centre we will help you out BS. MI can't sell that (tack left govern right).I don't think he would have won but he would have potentially reduced the CPC seats in Ontario, Atlantic Canada, QC and reduced the NDP. (The Liberals believed in a 2 stage rout to weaken the CPC)

  4. CanadianSense,

As I said on Nanos, I don't much care what the Canadian people think. However, they have spoken loud and clear. As a result, this government will continue in office. By default, the Conservatives win this round. Michael can't win this round, Bob certainly can't and neither could Jesus Christ.

But there will be future rounds. Fortunately, this is a war of attrition. We can't both win. One of us will. If it's the Conservatives, life will go on for me in political retirement.

We all have our own view of the Canada we want. Fighting for mine is worth it. If this Prime Minister gets a majority, my vision for Canada will disappear into the mist. His view of the world will firmly take hold. That will be his right if he receives a majority mandate. I for one will want no part and nothing to do with that vision for Canada.

  5. Ronald,

you don't have to care or listen to those snapshots captured by pollsters.

Political Parties spend money and run focus groups. Organization spend millions in Public relations, market research trying to "capture" the information.

If you believe anyone is above the "will" of people you give WAY too much credit for the ability to shape or make a campaign matter.

MI is not a resonating, the war room can't help that by destroying every other party.

The Liberals need a leader and a reason to be returned to power. Your personal observations are not connected with reality about the Liberals and the leader.

You think he will recover and he is supported, and the war room can overcome the serious problems and lack of success to date.

(Ronald the track record of the Liberal Party since 2006 is public.)The direction is only going one down with honeymoons in between new leaders.

I am sorry you refuse to acknowledge that reality.

  6. CanadianSense,

Let me be brutally frank. I think we can speak that way to each other after all this time: I don't think he will recover. I think he CAN recover but that won't happen with the present political posture.

Right now, Michael's office is a little too close to the clouds...fortunately for our Prime Minister, his is a little closer to the GROUND...

There are no magic red slippers that can be clicked to turn things around. This isn't Oz. We have to put in the hard work.

  7. Ronald the posture changes and nothing is put forward of substance.

I have no problem with attacking the CPC when they screw up but you have to have your ducks in row. How many scandals and millions were reported as mismanaged and we returned the Liberals.

Harper untied the right of centre parties and ended the Liberals reign.

Since 2006 the narrative by the Liberals has not changed.

We have been very brutal and honest. I can say I don't have a clue what SH is doing and how far to the left he will go to extend his government. I have stated for a very long time those 4700+ projects was too much and unecessary.
The Liberals are monkeys throwing "feces" at everyone hoping something sticks and stinks.

They have po'd the provinces and cities who are tied to those projects. The smears that this is ADSCAM is forcing partners like David Miller, George Smitherman to distance themselves from the "feces" doorknob Liberals.

I am not suggesting Bob will win, I only assert he would have never backed down or off the jugular of SH.

I don't think the sideshow we have in opposition is helping our country. I think they are helping weaken it by crying wolf and scandal every weak.

If roles were reveresed I would have the same position. Keep your powder dry and line up against the wrong policies and offer real alternatives. To attack blindly and without any real alternaives is just stupid.

Have a good nite. I am sorry the way things have worked out.

  8. CanadianSense,

I have the theoretical possibility of being inoculated twice: for seasonal and A H1N1 flu. But this Prime Minister has potentially done one better -- he may get inoculated THREE times. First for seasonal, second for A H1N1 and most effectively by Smitherman...the latter is like money in the bank for Conservatives.
