So Long Thomas.

Dear Tom,

Again, I have nothing against you personally but with respect, you're dreaming if you think you can hold on to Outremont...yes, yes, you did take it last time with 2,400 votes but you've got big problems waiting:

You guys chose to infuse the breath of life into Stephen Harper after denying him oxygen seventy-nine times. I hear the heat in the kitchen was almost unbearable after that one. Channeling Harry Truman or yes Hillary, even Bill Clinton. I hope your party hasn't ordered a life-time supply of super glue!

You also know that you owe your two victories to soft Quebec nationalists who happen to be of the social-democratic persuasion. Remember, how many of those people deserted the Bloc to give you a win while at the same time delighting in sticking a finger in the Liberal eye.

Those days are over. You can thank Jack for that. He not only killed his leadership but he's also sent you to the bottom of the political ocean.

You might want to think twice about taking a run at Jack's job as soon as it becomes vacant (and it will, right after the next vote). Remember Tom, our fellow Quebecers are not likely to take too kindly to Jack's recent political manoeuverings. No question about it, Jack has been in Toronto for a long time...

  1. Ronald,

Tom may or may not hold onto his seat. The trend of the Liberal Party since 2000 is clear. 2008 was a "perfect storm" by many pundits explaining it can't get any worse.

You may ignore or dismiss the NAC-Harper does Beatles.

The other shoe has dropped. Game changer?

The video has gone VIRAL. Look at those stats.

  2. CanadianSense,

Please give me a little credit. I would have thought that we both know each other pretty well by now. We're far too alike for our own good but I digress.

In no way is this a game changer for the guy who needs a little help from his friends. No question that it will soften the Prime Minister's image to an extent -- in some quarters -- but hey, let's not make more of this than we should.

Many pundits have called it risky and gutsy. It was clever, risky and courageous. But was it gutsy or an indication of chutzpah? Not on your life.

Remember what I said at the beginning. I wasn't smart enough to come up with it (Laureen probably did.) but this is how I'd have played it (no pun intended):

After the performance I would have deliberately mingled with the arts community knowing full well in advance that a pile of incoming shit would be headed my way. I would have stood my ground without making a spectacle of myself. Not THAT CanadianSense, would have been chutzpah!

  3. It was not risky to his image to walk in the "lions" den of donors to NAC.

It was simply another shot across the bow against MI who is framed as out of touch and in it for himself.

Iggy is on news mending fences and Harper is getting a standing ovation.

I have watched over 25 videos of Iffy and only 1-2 were not painful. The Liberal leader will not win on personality.

If you can't win on major issues or trust, competence or vision what is left?

Visit youtube and read the comments from people who don't like Harper but he won their respect.

The video has gone VIRAL and has had MORE views than Rick Mercer season opener videos.

52,000 views for a Canadian PM!!

Nearly 50% of each confirmed opposition VOTER is not interested in replacing Harper.

Ronald in January or June it may have been possible to gain 20 seats. Today, the direction of the polls and the attacks against the Liberals from within, I would be shocked if they can hold onto 25% POP.

  4. CanadianSense,

In a few days this will fall into the

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ category!!!...

  5. CanadianSense,

A Prime Minister does not have to win my respect regardless of what I think of him. Basic respect is inherent to every human being. In addition, all Canadians respect the office and therefore they must respect the man -- again, at least to some extent. I certainly do.

  6. The Math for the CPC majority this week will be published by 2-3 pollsters.

Ronald you are not the "regular" voter.

    Neither am I.

You need to think beyond QC, and inside baseball stuff.

Every few years we get a glimpse of a "home run" moment.

Trudeau on FLQ, Brian on Turner, Bill on sax, Obama on one america.

Those moments mean very different things to different people. You and I are both JADED.

Many people will NEVER switch parties etc.

The Polls are going only in one direction since Sept and the "bumps" are getting bigger.

Regular voters don't blame Harper for the recession, Canada is doing well in comparison to the G7. The regular voter does like the alternatives and a six week campaign will not change those basic truths.

Most people (smart, classy) would not take a cheap shot over PM at NAC. What did MI do?

The framing of him being out of touch with most regular voters regarding this "moment" is indicative.

Jack gave the PM a compliment. Retail politics 101. Jack, Gilles, Steve are all pros.

Today that "zzzzz" moment hit 190k views. This is a clip of a Canadian PM doing a song!

This clip was posted on Saturday night wait a few more days!

  7. CanadianSense,

Are you telling me that it's not reasonable for Michael to be ticked off over the "Just Visiting" ads? Put yourself in his place. Granted, all is fair in love, war and politics but he's only human. If I was Michael, I would be a little cheesed off myself.

You will agree with me that a thick skin in politics has its limits -- and yes that applies to both Michael and the PM when they are the target of intense bombardment. He thinks of "JV" while Harper recalls "Wafergate"...

  8. Ronald that Ringo moment is now over 400,000 views!

Are you really comparing a factual JV AD that has been "successful" in framing the leader vs the made up a fabricated story trying to create an outrage using religion? You think both are similar? (Yikes!)

Liberals knew MI 'problems' and in 2006 they denied him the leaership. Bob has never stopped undermining Iggy.

Now, JC, BR are actively weakening the party leader in public through proxies.

Fife has been saying the BR people have been saying bad things for months, but now supporters close to Iggy are also voicing criticisms.

Do you remember my post, this would not end well (January 2009 on Nik's Blog: MI would follow Dion?)

  9. CanadianSense,

Damned right I'm comparing them. I'm talking emotional reaction here. I'm not talking about the NATURE of each event. I'm speaking of the emotional reaction that each event had on the person affected. Now do you get it?
